A dynamic group of University of Nebraska–Lincoln leaders will guide the Staff Senate’s work in shared governance, staff advocacy and university-wide engagement in the coming year.

Jessie Brophy, director of external relations for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is serving as president of the Staff Senate. In this role, Brophy will chair the executive committee, set senate priorities and serve as the official representative to university leadership, including the chancellor’s executive leadership team.
Brophy brings a deep understanding of cross-campus collaboration and strategic communication, with years of leadership experience at the university.
“Stepping into this role is both humbling and energizing,” Brophy said. “I care deeply about the staff community at UNL and believe our collective voice matters — not just in solving challenges, but in shaping the future of our institution.”
Jerri Harner is vice president of internal affairs. She will serve as the primary liaison between senate committees and the executive committee, supporting committee chairs, coordinating internal operations and ensuring the efficient execution of senate business.
Harner’s collaborative leadership and commitment to continuous improvement will be essential in advancing committee work throughout the year. She also serves as the program coordinator in the Office of Organizational Development.
Morgan Green McConnell, assistant director of residence life, is vice president of external affairs, leading the senate’s engagement with Big Ten cohorts and systemwide partners. She represents the Staff Senate on university committees and helps elevate staff voices in broader institutional conversations.
With a strong background in outreach, engagement and systems thinking, McConnell is well positioned to build and strengthen relationships across the NU system.
Doug Pellatz, senior academic adviser in the College of Arts and Sciences, is secretary-treasurer. He manages senate documentation, communications and financial stewardship. Pellatz oversees meeting minutes, tracks budget expenditures and ensures transparency in senate operations.
Pellatz’s attention to detail and commitment to good governance will help maintain accessibility and accountability in Senate processes.
Jordan Gonzales, senior director of alumni engagement with the Nebraska Alumni Association, is serving as executive adviser. His leadership as president in the last year reshaped what is possible for Staff Senate. His continued mentorship and guidance are deeply appreciated by senate leaders.
Together, the Executive Committee will work to elevate staff voices, foster a more connected and inclusive campus community, and promote policies and practices that strengthen the university.
The Staff Senate serves as the official governance body representing all staff employees at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Through its committees, advocacy efforts and partnerships, the senate works to ensure staff perspectives are included in university decision-making — and that staff have opportunities to lead, grow and thrive.
