Visitors to the University of Nebraska State Museum’s Sunday with a Scientist program for children and families can learn more about aerodynamics, celebrate migratory birds and be among the first to see a new paleontology-themed exhibition.

The events, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. the third Sunday of each month at Morrill Hall, 645 N. 14th St., highlight the work of scientists while educating visitors on science and natural history topics.

Upcoming events are:

  • April 22: “Lift Off!” — Jae Sung Park, assistant professor of mechanical and materials engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and representatives from the ArtReach Project will explain the aerodynamics of airplanes, cars, sports and birds. Visitors will learn about Bernoulli’s principle while playing basketball and make aerodynamic art.

  • May 20: “International Migratory Bird Month Celebration” — Activities will focus on bird migration and nesting grounds. Children and families will be able to track sandhill crane migration as part of an interactive game, learn more about bird research and participate in a dance replicating prairie chicken behavior.

  • June 24: “Famous Fossils” — Visitors can celebrate the opening of Morrill Hall’s temporary exhibition celebrating Nebraska paleontology and fossil finds. From early expeditions to a look into the museum’s fourth-floor redevelopment, Cherish Nebraska, the event will include hands-on activities and opportunities to meet paleontologists.
