Talk to explore Newsome's removal of the Confederate flag

Bree Newsome, a filmmaker and activist who climbed a flag pole to remove a Confederate flag from the capital grounds in South Carolina, will deliver a multimedia presentation at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room.

The presentation, “Tearing Hatred from the Sky,” is free for UNL students (with a valid NCard) and $5 for all others. The talk is sponsored by the University Program Council and Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services.

Newsome will talk about taking down the Confederate flag and how it represents a path forward in the continued struggle for equality.

Newsome is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She blends her artistic talents with a passion for activism, educating audiences about the need to stand together to transform society.
