For many older adults, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a year of loneliness and isolation that poses additional risks to both mental and physical health more likely to affect seniors.
An upcoming webinar will feature a conversation with senior living experts from Eastmont Living about preserving and improving both mental and physical health as the pandemic, hopefully, is in its final months. “In This Together: Dealing with Isolation During the Pandemic” will be 10 to 11 a.m. March 16. The program is in partnership with the Nebraska Alumni Association and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
Registration is free. Alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the university who are or have loved ones over age 60 are welcome to sign up online.
No one has wanted to spend one of their golden years limiting their time with family, friends and experiences they enjoy. In this free webinar, Beth Nelsen, health care administrator at Eastmont Living, will answer questions about how we can take care of our physical and mental health, check in on our loved ones and keep the sense of community that’s so important.
Topics may include:
• How has the COVID-19 pandemic particularly affected seniors? What are some signs of when to be concerned about a senior’s isolation?
• What physical or emotional changes should one look for in seniors that are a direct result of the pandemic?
• How can you help a loved one? What resources or advice do you need when isolation is a concern?
• If you’re a senior, how can you balance your own need to stay safe from the virus with other physical and mental health needs?
