As the University of Nebraska–Lincoln welcomes back students for the start of the spring 2019 semester, here are five stories students, faculty and staff should be aware of as they sort through syllabi, book lists, schedules and lesson plans.
Celebrating Nebraska 150
This year, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is celebrating its 150th anniversary. The official anniversary — or Charter Day — is Feb. 15. A variety of N150 events are being planned and will be announced in coming weeks. Review some history and learn more about the N150 celebration.

State of the U Address
Chancellor Ronnie Green will deliver the State of the University address to faculty, staff, students and the community at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, 301 N. 12th St. The address outlines priorities for the university in the coming year. It is traditionally held at the start of the fall semester, but it was shifted to align with the start of the start of the university's 150th anniversary in 2019. Learn more about the speech.

Arts and Sciences dean search
Finalists have been named in the university’s search for its next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The finalists are Christopher Boyer, Norma Bouchard, Valerio Ferme and Mark Button. On-campus interviews begin with Boyer on Jan. 7 and continue through Jan. 18. Learn more about the finalists and the search.
Library security
Love Library and the Adele Hall Learning Commons have introduced new security measures this semester. A valid NCard will be needed for all students, faculty and staff wishing to access the facilities after 10 p.m. The shift is to ensure continued safety in the facilities during late night hours.
