5 faculty to participate in CIC leadership program

The Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is sponsoring the participation of five UNL faculty members in the Committee on Institutional Cooperation’s Academic Leadership Program.

The fellows for the 2014-15 academic year are: Tammy Beck, associate dean of the College of Business Administration and associate professor of management; Joy Castro, director of the Institute for Ethnic Studies and professor of English; Jody Koenig Kellas, director of undergraduate studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of communication studies; Daniel Linzell, professor and chair of civil engineering; and Paul Shoemaker, associate dean for faculty and research of the College of Business Administration.

This year’s fellows will attend the first seminar later this month at University of Minnesota, followed by one in February at Northwestern University and another in April at Ohio State University.

The Academic Leadership Program is one of the CIC’s most successful leadership initiatives. Established in 1989, the program develops the academic leadership and managerial skills of nominated faculty who have demonstrated exceptional ability and academic promise. The program addresses the challenges of academic administration at major research universities, while helping faculty members prepare to meet those challenges.

Eighteen UNL faculty members have participated in the ALP since 2011 and all have significant leadership positions on campus. Associate Vice Chancellor and ALP liaison, Lance C. Pérez said, “The program has a rich history of producing academic leaders for the CIC and other nationally prominent universities. UNL’s ALP fellows continue to serve the campus and lead important academic initiatives.”
