Lily Tomlin and Julia Garner star in "Grandma."

“7 Chinese Brothers” opens at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center, and the dramedy “Grandma” continues.

The Norman A. Geske Cinema Showcase will also present director Bob Byington, who will be appearing Sept. 25 at the opening night screening of “7 Chinese Brothers” for a Q&A with the audience.

In “7 Chinese Brothers,” a man unaccustomed to telling the truth learns to at least describe it. Larry is an unqualified, unemployable, inebriated prankster who rides a tide of booze onto the glorious shores of an undiscriminating Quick-Lube.

Taking a part-time job vacuuming and washing windshields, Larry finds himself mixed up with hostile co-workers and unsatisfied customers, while also finding himself smitten with his lovely boss, Lupe Torrez. Will Larry keep it together long enough to win the girl, provide for man’s best friend and do his grandmother proud?

In “Grandma,” Lily Tomlin is Elle Reid. Reid has just gotten through breaking up with her girlfriend when her granddaughter, Sage, unexpectedly shows up needing $600 before sundown. Temporarily broke, Grandma Reid and Sage spend the day trying to get their hands on the cash as their unannounced visits to old friends and flames end up rattling skeletons and digging up secrets.

These programs are being presented with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
