Achievements | Honors, awards and publications for the week of Feb. 23-27

Members of the UNL community who were featured in award announcements for the week of Feb. 23 to 27 include Dale Bowder, Beth Doll, Erin Kinley, Chad Lea, Sara Mata, Vincent Nunnally and Jenelle Reeves. More information on each achievement is listed below.

Faculty/Staff
  • Dale Bowder and Chad Lea, project managers with Facilities Planning and Construction, received the Commercial/Institutional Award for Exemplary Service from the Preservation Association of Lincoln for their work on the renovation of Brace Hall. The award recognizes superior rehabilitation or reuse of a commercial or institutional property. For more information on the Brace Hall project, click here.

  • Beth Doll, associate dean in the College of Education and Human Sciences, received the 2015 Outstanding Contributions to Training Award Feb. 17 at the annual conference of the Trainers of School Psychologists in Orlando, Florida. The award is presented to school psychologists who throughout their careers have demonstrated exceptional contributions to training issues that merit special recognition.   • Sara Mata, assistant director of the Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services, has earned the Ruth Strang Research Award from the NASPA — Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. The award honors high-quality research related to women in higher education and seeks to promote research by, for and about women. Mata’s earned the award for a study on how female faculty members were affected after being diagnosed with breast cancer. For more information, go to http://go.unl.edu/8djs.

  • Jenelle Reeves, associate professor of teaching, learning and teacher education, received the Donald R. and Mary Lee Swanson Award for Teaching Excellence. The honor, awarded by UNL’s College of Education and Human Sciences, focuses on the impact of teaching excellence on students. For more information, go to http://go.unl.edu/ccg6.

Students
  • Erin Kinley, a horticulture major, was admitted into the Longwood Graduate Program in Public Horticulture, a joint program between Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. The program teaches students to be leaders through a variety of experiential activities, travel and coursework. For more information, go to http://go.unl.edu/2oym.

  • Vincent Nunnally, a classics and religious studies major, was accepted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. The society is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership is based on grade point average and class standing.
