Members of the UNL community who were featured in award announcements between April 17-23 include Kurt Geisinger, Bryan Howard, Jake Kirkland, Christopher Marks, Jessica Remaly and Wheeler Winston Dixon.

Kurt Geisinger, a Meierhenry distinguished professor in educational psychology and the director of the Buros Center for Testing, was selected to be a member of a committee that directed the study and wrote the report on Psychological Testing in the Service of Disability Determination. The United States Social Security Administration administers two disability programs: Social Security Disability Insurance, for disabled individuals, and their dependent family members who have worked and contributed to the Social Security trust funds, and Supplemental Security Income, which is a means-tested program based on income and financial assets for adults aged 65 years or older and disabled adults and children.
Jake Kirkland, a senior career adviser for UNL career services, received the UNL 2015 James V. Griesen Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Service to Students, making it his second prestigious award in less than two years. Prior to this award, Kirkland received the MLK Fulfilling the Dream award in January 2014.
Christopher Marks, an associate professor of organ at UNL, was named associate dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, which will be effective July 1. He will take over from professor of art history Christin Mamiya, who is returning to the faculty in the Department of Art and Art History.
Wheeler Winston Dixon, a professor of film studies at UNL, delivered a keynote lecture titled “The Current Fate of Experimental Works on 16mm from the 1960s and 1970s in a Digital Age,” at the Columbia University Seminar on Cinema and Interdisciplinary Interpretation in New York City April 16. On April 17, he also presented a screening of the works of 1970s experimental filmmaker Jim Krell, along with a lecture and question and answer session on Krell’s work, at Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan, which was attended by a large audience. He curated the films used in the screening, which represented the first public screening of Krell’s work since 1982. Anthology is the world’s leading museum and archive for experimental film.
Students
Bryan Howard, a senior English, theatre arts and human behavior major, received the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas Dramaturgy Fellowship at the national festival of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Washington, D.C. Howard was one of four national fellows attending the festival. He had previously won first place in the LMDA/ KCACTF student dramaturgy competition at the Region V festival in Minnesota in January.
Jessica Remaly, a senior hospitality, restaurant and tourism management major at UNL, was accepted into the professional internship program at Disney, which she will begin in Orlando, Florida, June 17.
