Artist Jean Conner to give March 8 talk at Sheldon

The Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will present artist Jean Conner in conversation with guest curator Marissa Vigneault at 5:30 p.m. March 8.

Conner’s work and that of her husband are the subject of the exhibition “Some Place … Not Too Far Away: Bruce and Jean Conner at the University of Nebraska,” on view at Sheldon through May 8.

Vigneault also will give a gallery talk on the exhibition at noon March 8.

Bruce Conner and Jean Sandstedt met in a painting class at the university in 1954. They married in 1957 and remained together until Bruce’s death in 2008. The exhibition includes works by the Conners and their professors: Rudy Pozzatti, LeRoy Burket and David Seyler. “Some Place … Not Too Far Away” examines the sustained influence of the university’s art department – as well as the surrounding political, cultural and geographic environment – on the two artists.

Sheldon Museum of Art houses a permanent collection of more than 12,000 objects in a landmark Philip Johnson building at 12th and R streets on the UNL City Campus. The museum is open free to the public during regular hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays.
