A move to Pinnacle Bank Arena resulted in record attendance to UNL’s fall career fairs.
Organized by Career Services, the fairs reached more than 3,800 students, a 28 percent increase from 2014 attendance. The fairs are divided into different disciplines, and the business, service, government and liberal arts career fair alone attracted 1,400 students, a 49 percent increase compared to the 2014 event.
Overall employer attendance at the fairs reached more than 440, a 23 percent increase from 2014. The business, service, government and liberal arts fair had a 28 percent increase in employer attendance. The engineering, science and technology event recorded a 26 percent increase, while the agricultural sciences and natural resources fair had a 14 percent increase.
Efforts by both faculty and staff from across campus contributed to the increased attendance. For example, the College of Arts and Sciences collaborated with 24 faculty in 14 departments through in-class presentations, reaching over 500 students prior to the fairs.
“I realized the importance of incorporating a career component in my class,” said Ann Tschetter, professor of history. “We practiced elevator speeches and ways to articulate students’ transferrable skills developed in the history program. In just a few days, students had already figured out more effective ways to apply what they are learning and targeted additional minors or another major to complement their career goals.”
UNL’s next career fair is Feb. 16-18. For more information on the fair and Career Services, click here.
