The “2015 Heart & Hands: Fifth National Juried Book Art Exhibition for Students” is on display until May 22 in UNL’s Love Library North. The exhibition will then travel to the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Criss Library for a showing from May 26 through June 28.
This national exhibition showcases the best examples of a broad range of books being made by graduate and undergraduate students in accredited academic institutions.
Twenty-one works were selected for the exhibition representing 14 colleges and universities, including UNL and UNO.
The five students from UNL with works in the exhibition are Emily Trauernicht, a senior from Hallam, Nebraska; Conner Rodenbaugh, a freshman from Harrison, Nebraska; Jeremiah Wistrom, a senior from Castle Rock, Colorado; Jenny May, a senior from Omaha, Nebraska; and Keith Graham, a student from Lincoln.
The following four students received Juror Awards of Recognition:
Quynh Tran, University of Nevada-Reno, “Infinite Paradise,” ink on vellum, scroll.
Radha Pandy, University of Iowa, “Anatomia Botanica,” letterpress, linoleum, pochoir, photopolymer plates on handmade paper.
Susan Marie Brown, University of Washington Bothell, “Love & Courage: Historic Fiction,” inkjet, digital collages, photographs.
Linn Norton, University of Nebraska at Omaha, “The Little Book of Hurt,” letterpress, monoprints, linoleum, accordion folded.
The juror for this year’s exhibition was nationally recognized book artist and professor Bonnie O’Connell from UNO. She directs The Fine Arts Press and teaches courses in book arts, alternative media and color theory. A founding member of the College Book Art Association, she now serves on the executive board and as the publications committee chair.
