UNL’s ninth-annual Mid-Semester Check for first-year and entering transfer students is Sept. 16 to 19. The program highlights and reminds students of academic expectations while providing information on involvement opportunities and advising resources.
Mid-Semester check is offered in two sessions, 5 to 6:15 p.m. and 6 to 7:15 p.m., each night in the Nebraska Union.
Faculty and staff will lead workshops that offer recommendations for academic success, undergraduate research and education abroad opportunities, assistance with choosing a major, preparing for health professions, finding a student organization, honing time management and financial skills, making professional connections and building relationships, and working with an academic adviser.
The event provides students a guided opportunity for a timely review of academic and co-curricular responsibilities and college and major requirements once they are on campus. It is key to retaining students from one year to the next because it encourages students to become more engaged and find resources to encourage their success in college.
More than 2,300 students attended last year’s Mid-Semester Check. For more information, go to http://nse.unl.edu/programs/mid-semester-check.aspx.
