Rumsfeld portrait and 'Grand Budapest Hotel' featured through April 24

“The Unknown Known,” a mesmerizing portrait of Donald Rumsfeld by Academy Award-winning director Errol Morris, opens April 11 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Also continuing is Wes Anderson’s star-studded comic caper “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”

Rumsfeld, one of the key architects of the Iraq War, served as a congressman and as an adviser to four presidents, including two stints as Secretary of Defense. Rather than conducting a conventional interview, Morris has Rumsfeld perform and expound on his “snowflakes,” tens of thousands of memos (many never previously published) he composed during his years in office.

Morris makes plain that Rumsfeld’s “snowflakes”are contradicted by the facts. The film is an illumination of the mystery of Rumsfeld, who remains an unknown known even after years in the public eye.

“The Unknown Known” is rated PG-13.

“The Grand Budapest Hotel” recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the World War I and II, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes Gustave’s most trusted friend.

The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune, all against the backdrop of a changing continent.

“The Grand Budapest Hotel” features Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson and Owen Wilson.

Both films play through April 24.
