The 23rd season of the Sheldon Art Association’s Jazz in June concert series concludes today with Susan Pereira and Sabor Brasil.
The concerts are at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in June in the sculpture garden west of UNL’s Sheldon Museum of Art. Although the Jazz in June concert series is free, those in attendance are encouraged to make a donation of $10 per family to help ensure its continuation.
The event also includes a walking tour of newly installed and recently conserved works in the Sheldon Museum of Art sculpture garden, and a market featuring 25 vendors with food, drinks and artisan-made crafts.
The Jazz in June Market, located at 12th and R streets, opens at 5 p.m. The walking tour, led by Sharon Kennedy, director of education at the Sheldon, and Genevieve Ellerbee, associate registrar, begins at 6 p.m. at the Sheldon’s east entrance.
Sabor Brasil fuses traditional Brazilian styles with contemporary jazz. Founded in 1991 by vocalist, pianist, percussionist and composer Susan Pereira and drummer Vanderlei Pereira, the ensemble thrills audiences with a repertoire ranging from beloved Brazilian standards to original compositions influenced by musica popular brasileira, samba, bossa nova, chorinho and the exotic rhythms of Bahia.
UNL BikeValet offers free secure parking for bikes from 5 p.m. to an hour after each Jazz in June concert. Parking is at 13th and R streets at the east end of the Jazz in June market.
