UCLA sociologist Mignon Moore will discuss her work on the physical and mental health of lesbian and gay elders in New York and Los Angeles in a 3:30 p.m. Oct. 7 presentation in the Nebraska Union (room posted). The talk, “In the Shadow of Sexuality: LGBT African American Elders and Social Support,” is free and open to the public.
Moore will discuss how lesbian and gay elders included in her study are affected by sexual identity, social support, community institutions and medical care. She will also discuss the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender African Americans throughout the 1960s and 1970s, as well as their current standing in racial communities.
The talk is part of Women’s and Gender Studies fall colloquium series. The theme is “LGBTQ Perspectives on Health and Well-Being.”
