UNL’s University Singers will perform the Nebraska premiere of the London-version of Johannes Brahm’s “Requiem” at 7:30 p.m. April 17 in Kimball Hall. Tickets are $5 general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

The University Singers will be joined by Paul Barnes, professor of music, and Brenda Wristen, associate professor of piano. The performance will feature two nine-foot grand pianos on stage.

Brahms composed the four-hand piano score at the request of his publisher in 1869, the year after he completed the fifth movement of “Requiem.”

UNL’s version is an updated American-English version compiled by Peter Eklund, professor of music. The version omits the frequent Victorian “thee,” “thou,” “thine,” and “thy” references and puts the text in a refined, modern manner.

Soloists are doctoral students in vocal performance at UNL.
