UNL is competing in the Game Day Challenge recycling competition for the fourth consecutive year. Game Day Challenge aims to divert as much waste as possible during one fall football game.

UNL will participate during the Huskers’ Nov. 16 home game with Michigan State. Dozens of volunteers are needed to assist with the effort.

Collaborating with the “Go Green for Big Red” program, which helps with recycling around parking lots at each home football game, the Game Day Challenge measures success based upon the categories of Waste Minimization, Diversion Rate, Greenhouse Gas Reduction, Recycling Champion and Organics Reduction. UNL hopes to improve upon last year’s results in which it ranked second in the Big Ten Conference in both Waste Minimization and Diversion Rate.

UNL Landscape Services teams up with student groups, including Sustain UNL, Graduate Student Association, and ASUN student government, to collect recyclable materials in the campus parking lots while partners from Intercollegiate Athletics, ROTC and Recycling Enterprises collect within the stadium through their normal game day recycling process.

Food for volunteers will be provided by Valentino’s and Pepsi.

Volunteer by contacting UNL’s recycling coordinators at recycling@unl.edu or 402-472-9139.
