'Youth,' 'Janis: Little Girl Blue' at Ross

Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin

“Youth” is showing at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center from Jan. 15-28. The Motion Picture Association of America has rated the film “R” for graphic nudity, some sexuality and language.

Starring Michael Caine as Fred and Harvey Keitel as Mick, “Youth” shows the lifelong bond between two friends vacationing in a luxury Swiss Alps lodge as they ponder retirement. While Fred has no plans to resume his musical career despite the urging of his loving daughter Lena, Mick is intent on finishing a screenplay in what may be his last important film for his muse Brenda.

Also playing at is “Janis: Little Girl Blue,” a documentary on Janis Joplin, from Jan. 22-28. Joplin’s own words tell much of the film’s story through a series of letters she wrote to her parents over the years, many of them made public here for the first time. The program is being presented with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
