Collaboration continues to strengthen relationships for transfer students

Ninety-two faculty, staff, and administrators from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Southeast Community College convened at the “Building Futures Transfer Retreat” held at UNL on December 5.

The event was a follow-up to the “Co-Creating the SCC-UNL Transfer Future” retreat held in July. Work groups that have been collaborating since the summer shared progress on:

  • shared academic advising and professional development
  • alignment of curricular pathways and dual credit opportunities
  • enhanced marketing and communications
  • the development of data sharing agreements.

In addition to learning about enhanced pathways, policies, and support for students across both institutions, attendees also heard from a panel of four students who shared their experiences in transferring to UNL. Tours of Kiewit Hall, Howard L. Hawks Hall, and Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall were provided.

“We are thrilled by the progress that these teams have made since July,” said Amy Goodburn, senior associate vice chancellor and dean of undergraduate education. “This fall, UNL hosted SCC academic advisors for a professional development workshop and in the spring, SCC will host UNL advisors weekly to meet with SCC students to answer questions and support their degree planning.

"University registrars from both institutions have also been meeting to begin building pathways in UNL’s new advising and degree planning tool to support SCC students. There’s great energy across both institutions to build collaborative partnerships and relationships underpinned by a student-first approach.”
