Narges Bajoghli, award-winning anthropologist, filmmaker and writer, will join Global Cafe for an informal talk from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 5 in Oldfather Hall, Room 827.
Bajoghli is assistant professor of Middle East Studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
Her academic research is at the intersections of media, power and military in the Middle East, specifically focusing on regime cultural producers in Iran and is based on ethnographic research with Basij, Ansar-e Hezbollah and Revolutionary Guard media producers.
Bajoghli received her doctorate in socio-cultural anthropology from New York University. She was also trained as a documentary filmmaker in New York University’s culture and media program.
Outside of academia, Bajoghli is a co-founder of the non-profit organization, Iranian Alliances Across Borders; has worked with non-governmental organizations in Iran and Latin America; and has curated and organized art exhibitions and exchanges in the` United States, Iran and Cuba.
