
University employees are invited to register for the Healthy Heart, Healthy Workplace Hypertension Management program from HealthierU.
Based on the Health Coaches for Hypertension Control curriculum developed by the Clemson Institute for Engaged Aging, this evidence-based program is designed to support individuals manage hypertension. The framework of this program is developed around educational topics including nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and medication adherence. The format of this 12-month program is set in a virtual small group setting, beginning with 12 weeks of consecutive weekly meetings, followed by monthly check-ins.
The Healthy Heart, Healthy Workplace program is to improve hypertension self-management in small group educational sessions. The key take-aways of this program include:
- Increasing knowledge of hypertension self-management
- Determining and increasing stage of readiness to make lifestyle changes
- Promoting behavior changes in topics such as nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, stress management, and medication adherence and management
This 12-month program is organized into two sections:
- Section 1 consists of 12 weeks of weekly live zoom sessions; 60 minutes each.
- Section 2 consists of monthly continuing education sessions designed to check on program material adherence and lifestyle change progress.
