The Water for Food Institute at the University of Nebraska has released the proceedings from the 2014 Water for Food Global Conference, which was held in association with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Oct. 19-22 in Seattle, Washington.
The report summarizes the presentations and discussions that took place at the conference surrounding the theme, “Harnessing the Data Revolution: Ensuring Water and Food Security from Field to Global Scales.”
During the sixth annual conference, more than 250 practitioners, scholars, farmers and thought leaders from 23 countries convened to explore the many promises and challenges of using data to transform agricultural water management for large and smallholder farmers around the world.
Conference topics included; exploring how funding organizations use data to select and evaluate programs, as well as how those efforts are fostering the adoption of technology in low-income countries; how the private sector uses data to guide research and development decisions and measure the successes of their products; how local data collection can be enhanced to benefit smallholder farmers; using climate data to improve decision-making; the effect of water on public health; and the economic implications of water metering.
